Anzac Day

We have started our learning this term by looking at Anzac Day and why we celebrate it. We have been reading great books about the animals that supported the soldiers during the war. We watched an interesting clip that used Lego to show the battle at Anzac Cove.

Term 2 and Scale of Excellence

SCALE OF EXCELLENCE

Welcome back to term 2 everyone! What a great term of learning we have ahead.

We have started the term by introducing the 'Scale of Excellence'. This is to promote self regulation, increasing work habits and setting high standards of work. The children will be encouraged to reflect and develop their skills in these areas. Feel free to come in and ask your child where they have placed themselves (in consultation with me) and what they need to work on you go up the scale. We want excellent work in Room 18 and to do that we have to work hard! The students are definitely up for the challenge.

Maths Matter

For the next two weeks in Maths we are learning about money. We are looking at finding totals and getting change. Please spend some time talking about it. We are having a great time using the fun money to go shopping or finding money targets. 

Problem Solving

We have been learning about how the brain works and what it means to problem solve. We had a great  time working together to get the brain box working

Cultural Day 2015

Cultural Day was so wonderful. It is always amazing to see the wide ranges of cultures we have at Ilam- 57 this year. We had a great day of weaving, joining in the parade and watching the wonderful concert. 

Chance of rain....

This week we have been looking at probability in Maths. We have looked at collecting data and converting this information into simple fractions or percentages. We have looked at and discussed what makes a game 'fair' or not. Some groups have also looked into the likelihood of something happening. So much fun! Check our homework books for an activity you can do together at home. 

We were also able to transfer skills from data gathering to record our results. 😊

Statistics- maths

This week we are continuing with our work around statistics. We have been looking at classifying information. Some groups have been gathering and sorting data. Another group has been sorting data and graphing the results and another group has taken part in mini census and will display their data in different ways.
